Soonchunhyang University(SCHU), which originally started as Soonchunhyang Medical School and currently administers four affiliated Medical Centers, is one of the top ranked universities in South Korea emphasizing on medical education and research. Soonchunhyang Institute of Medi-Bio Science(SIMS) was founded in 2013 as a major initiative to establish a Biomedical Research Center of Excellence within the University.
The primary mission of SIMS is to play an active central role in leading the basic biomedical research at SCH University, promote interdisciplinary research programs with other science and technology researchers at the university, and create translational/clinical research initiatives in collaboration with clinicians at the SCH Medical Centers. Beyond these missions, SIMS aims to play a keystone role in creating and developing a Biomedical Research and Development Cluster in the Cheonan City area in the coming years. Furthermore, SIMS thrives to establish active international collaborations with foreign biomedical research institutes, especially the ones in Asia, and sets the ambitious goal to become one of the premium biomedical research institutes in Asia within the foreseeable future.
Since its inception, the University has committed to invest over 20 million US dollars for a new research building, infrastructure and personnel for SIMS. The new research building, located conveniently near the SCH Medical Center in Cheonan City, opened its doors in July 2015. SIMS has already recruited 12 outstanding new faculty members and plans to increase total faculty up to 20 members in the next couple of years. The main focuses of the faculty research are stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, etc.
Starting in September 2014, SIMS launched a new Graduate Program for Integrated Biomedicine. We will train a new generation of scientists, clinicians and engineers who can think, work and communicate across disciplines. We welcome highly motivated, outstanding students from Korea and abroad. All the courses are conducted in English, and we also offer our students opportunities to participate in international conferences, workshops, as well as the Research Internship Program which will be conducted in collaboration with world renowned research institutes and bio-industries.
We firmly believe that SIMS will play a leading role as an international hub for biomedical research and education, and would appreciate your continuous interest and support in our endeavor.
Sincerely,

Jeong Kyo Yoon, Ph.D.
Professor and President
